For anyone who's completed the Tightrope Foundations courses, or any experienced improvisor or performer with relevant experience.

FRIDAY DROP IN:

Tightrope's first Drop-In impro class! 

PREREQUISITE: Completion of an intro level improv class. 

A mix of high-energy games, impossible risks, thoughtful investigation, thrilling action, boisterous romance, deep truths & ridiculous hats. Bring an idea, or a character, a couple friends, or just yourself,  FRIMP is a playground to explore new ideas and be surprised! 

Led by Tightrope Director of Education Jeff Gladstone.

For any improvisor or performer who's looking to add to their toolkit. Each month we focus on a different skill set and it all wraps up with a live performance at our new Sunday Student Showcase: Sideshow! 

CLOWN

Rediscover the joy of performance through “Le Jeu” and clown. Learn to play, develop complicity, gain sensitivity, embrace taking risks, and find the freedom to fail. Inspired by the pedagogy of the French clown master Philippe Gaulier, this workshop is for anyone who wants to get out of their head and follow their impulses.


Final performance on Sunday April 2nd at 7:00pm

BEING DYNAMIC: WITH DAN O'CONNOR

This class is about giving the actor/improviser a fresh take. We will look at how to make improvisation dynamic while still taking your time. We will explore how narrative improvisation can change how we discover character and deepen relationships on stage.

About DAN O'CONNOR

Dan is co-founder of Impro Theatre/Los Angeles Theatresports and BATS Improv in San Francisco. He is an actor, writer, director, producer and improviser. 


Improvisation and Theatre credits include the Improbable Theatre’s production of Keith Johnstone’s Life Game (Off-Broadway); work and ACT. He has been a director at the Out of Bounds festival, The Yes And Festival in NYC, The Lighten Up Theatre Fest, the Calgary and Vancouver International Improvisation Festivals, MITICO in Milan, the Dubai Fringe, the MOMENT Festival in Vienna, TORN in Hamburg, the Global Improv Initiative at UC Irvine and Middlesex University, Charleston Comedy Festival and at the ITI Conference “Improv Ecology” in Vancouver. 


Dan has taught for playwriting/screenwriting programs UCSB and DUKE. He was an adjunct professor for USC‘s BFA program and has also taught in the MBA Program for the University of Texas, the National Alliance of Acting Teachers and the Directors Lab West. He has been a consultant and trainer for Cirque du Soleil, Dreamworks and Disney Animation.

Dan has co-authored two books with Jeff Katzman about using improvisation to lead a more happy and engaged life both published by North Atlantic Books:

Ensemble! Using the Power of Improv To Forge Connections in a Lonely World 

Television directing credits include the critically acclaimed ABC hybrid sit-com Sons and Daughters and Campus Ladies for the Oxygen Network. He was a writer and the improv director for The Wayne Brady Show. He co-created the NBC/PAX television improv comedy show World Cup Comedy. Television acting credits include everything from Seinfeld toThe Righteous Gemstones.He trained at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and is a graduate of the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

IMPRO FOR AUDITIONS

Are you an actor or actress, auditioning for commercials, television, film or theatre, and looking to expand your skills? Impro for Auditions will give you the tools you need to act (and react!) spontaneously in any situation, to discover character, to create mystery and tension, and to bring your authentic self to any scene, script, or improvisational audition.

TIGHTROPE CONSERVATORY

Conservatory is for improvisors who have trained with us for over one year. Over three months, you will receive vocal and physical training, ensemble development, regular weekly scene study practises, work on short-form, long-form and impro theatre, and once a month, will perform together at our new monthly Sunday evening student performance series SIDESHOW.

OUR VENUE

All of our In-Studio classes take place at the Tightrope Theatre 2343 Main Street. Our theatre space, designed specifically for improvisation training and performance, has lights and sound, as well as props, costumes & set pieces to bring your scenes to life. Come visit us to watch a show and say hi!
