Expand your improvisation knowledge, develop your skills and techniques, and challenge yourself with this unique workshop opportunity.
This five-day workshop is rooted in Keith Johnstone’s games, exercises and techniques for improvisational performance, scene work, character development and dynamic story creation.
Taught by Patti Stiles, author of Improvise Freely, whose understanding of Johnstone’s work and philosophy, combined with a wealth of experience on the world stage, has made her a “must have” teacher and director.
Patti Stiles (Australia): Patti is a professional actor, improvisor, director, author, and playwright specialising in improvisational theatre. She was trained by Keith Johnstone and served her theatre apprenticeship at the Loose Moose Theatre Company (CA).

This 5-week course will open up all the possibilities of story. We will develop skills to make captivating beginnings, what we call the Platform, and how to find a change or Tilt to your scene for maximum impact. We will explore this through game, scene work, genre-based storytelling, and long-form narratives. Gain access to the magical powers that will enhance improvised scene work in any style.

This 5-week course will give you tools and training to spontaneously create believable and entertaining characters in scenes. We will explore techniques of status and power dynamics, physical acuity, outrageous attitudes and more. We will mine the comedic potential of authentic human behaviour, so you can expand your character range and create compelling stories in any improvisational style. Side Show Performance on the final class.
