Melissa Ferraro is a New York City based Comedian, Drama Teacher, Writer and Improviser. She fell in love with performing at an early age when cast in her middle school production of Oliver and went on to study English and Theatre at the University of Rochester after graduating High School. While working at VH1 20 years ago, Melissa decided to continue her acting studies and quit her job to attend Circle in the Square Theatre School. Upon graduating, Melissa acted in a handful of off-Broadway plays and a few independent films, including acting in the Sundance Lab programs twice, where she had the pleasure of being directed by some of her favorite actors and writers, including the late Harold Ramis and Ed Harris. At the same time, she was teaching Drama to children around New York City and started her own summer camp in response to the requests of her students' parents to do so. Camp Mel turned Central Park into it's own personal playground, where Melissa filmed her campers acting out Newbury books for the annual 90 second Newbury Film Festival. Word spread about her ability to address children's needs and desires with an innovative approach and she was invited to be the Drama Teacher at the Parkside School, an independent School for children with language delay and social/emotional disorders. She started directing the graduates in adaptations of beloved classics that she rewrote to incorporate her students' interests and address their challenges. In 2015 Melissa joined Dirty Little Secrets Improv as first the secret reader and then one of the original cast members in NYC, performing to sold out shows in the East Village for 5 years. Being back onstage and making audiences laugh inspired Melissa to start doing stand up right before the pandemic and her first stand up shows were on zoom with The Broad Squad- she has since gone on to perform at venues across the country and she continues to write and direct children in original productions. She loves helping people find their unique voice and is thrilled to help bring Tightrope Impro Theatre's distinctive process to New York City.
